<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Hi everyone, the market will be open this Saturday as usual.&nbsp; Please see below for an update.<br /><br /><strong>Update on locally grown items</strong><br /><br />The locally grown items are starting to roll in.&nbsp; Based on my conversations with the farmers today, I expect to see several locally grown items including:</span></p>
<ul>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Ramp (probably the last week)</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Asparagus</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Rhubarb</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Swiss Chard</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Morrell mushrooms</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Spring lettuce</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Spinach</span></li>
<li><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Micro greens<br /></span></li>
</ul>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">I also expect to see lots of hanging baskets, potted flowers, vegetable and flower transplants for the garden.<br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Check out Kistaco, Zang and Greenawalt stands for these items.<br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Speaking of rhubarb, I need to refresh my memory on how to cook rhubarb.&nbsp; Mariam Rubin seems to always give us a timely recipe in the Post-Gazette.&nbsp; Today she has a recipe for Rhubarb, strawberry and ricotta turnovers.&nbsp; They look delicious.&nbsp; Check it out.</span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;"><a href="http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/life/food/one-good-recipe-rhubarb-strawberry-and-ricotta-turnovers-with-cream-cheese-pastry-686835/">http://www.post-gazette.com/stories/life/food/one-good-recipe-rhubarb-strawberry-and-ricotta-turnovers-with-cream-cheese-pastry-686835/</a><br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Finally, check out the really nice article that the P-G ran on Sunday on our very own Chris Bandy.&nbsp; Chris crafts hand made products out of salvaged wood.&nbsp; His work is just beautiful.&nbsp; I am a big fan of his cutting boards, but he makes many different items and also does custom work.&nbsp; He is at the market every Saturday.&nbsp; Who knew he had so many other talents.<br /></span></p>

<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Hi everyone, the market will be open this Saturday as usual.&nbsp; Please see below for an update.&nbsp; We will have some new locally grown items this week.<br /><br /><strong>Update on Ramps</strong><br />Ramp season is underway.&nbsp; We had quite a lot of them at the market last week.&nbsp; Between Rick Zang and Brian Greenawalt we had several bushels and they all sold.&nbsp; I ran in to Chef Trevett Hooper from Legume and asked him how he was preparing them.&nbsp; He is doing all sorts of things with them including pickling, making purees and grilling them.&nbsp; He suggest taking the whole ramp, leaf and bulb, and drizzle with some olive oil, season with salt and pepper, and then cook them on the grill for a few minutes while you are grilling any kind of meat.&nbsp; I did that and served it with some chciken from Kennedy's.<br /><br />I also minced the ramps, leaf and bulb, and suteed them in olive oil.&nbsp; Then served them on top of some steamed rice.&nbsp; Very simple and very good.&nbsp; <br /><br />So please dont be afraid to try them.&nbsp; Even 1/4 pound can add a lot of flavor to a dish.<br /></span></p>
<p><span style="font-family: arial,helvetica,sans-serif; font-size: medium;">Check out the article Bob Batz wrote about Ramps in the Post-Gazette last week:</span></p>
